I am applying to a scholar program in Ethiopia where I will be conducting research, and it is recommended that I learn Amharic. I am in the beginner stages of learning, so I need help in all areas. I am willing to dedicate at least an hour every day to learning the language. I am looking for a teacher who is patient, willing to go over things with me a few times until I know it, one who does not rush, and someone who enjoys both speaking and teaching Amharic.

I would like to Learn Amharic so I can have a better relationship with my friend, while also creating something I can pass to my child. My proficiency level would be absolute beginner, and I would need to work on my grammar and pronunciation . I would like to dedicate at least two hours a week to my language lessons. I am an American but my grandfather (whom I sadly never knew) was Ethiopian. He visited the US only a couple times - once when my father was conceived and once when my father was 12 years old.
My grandmother, on the other hand, was African-Ameri can. I don't know my Ethiopian grandfather's name, but I must look just like him.
I speak very little Amharic (tinish tinish) but want to learn enough to hold a concersation. Since I look Ethiopian (because of my grandfather) Ethiopians who I encounter from time to time speak to me in Amharic, assuming that I speak it, too. It's a little embarrassing when I cannot respond.
I know fidel characters pretty good and know how to pronounce all the sounds. I can learn words on my own, but need help more with forming sentences and responding to questions.
If you live in a different city or state, that's fine and face to face instruction is not that necessary.
Also, I am a business consultant here in Los Angeles and have a couple Ethiopian clients.
