I have recently spent 4 months in East Africa - in Tanzania to be exact!
While i was there i tried my best to speak the language and where i could, not just get by with English!
I hope to go back to Africa in 2 years time and i will spend at least a whole year there - i would love to be fluent in Swahili by this point.
I spent some time working with a Safari company based in Arusha - we'd spend nights out in the Serengeti with the staff and they would all be laughing and joking in their language. I would only be able to catch on to sections of the conversation and would love to be more involved next time.
I am quite basic right now - I can say hello and goodbye - nice to meet you - how are you - i can order food/drink - ask simple questions like name/age/wher e are you from - i can count to about 40 - i can do the days of the week and months of the year.
I would be able to dedicate time in the evenings during the week or on a weekend i can be quite flexible. I would love to have one session *at least* a week. And this is something i REALLY want to learn so i hope to keep my lessons on going for at least a year or two :)
I do get really frustrated with myself if i don't pick up things quickly. Would need a tutor that would be able to snap me out of it!!
