I have no Arabic skills. I want to learn because i've studied Glob alization and the MIddle East at university, and to further my knowledge and experience, i think it's important to learn Arabic. I would like to focus on conversation, then reading/writi ng. I can devote at least 6 hours a week...more if needed. I would prefer a group setting...mai nly because i've just finishe d school and don't have money to fund private lessons.

Hello, I live in San Francisco, California, and would love to find Icelandic instruction in the Bay Area. I am currently studying several languages, but Icelandic was my first love. Although I have been studying Icelandic on my own for about four years, the resources available to me are limited, and although I can read and even write fairly well (all things considered) I have had no conversation practice whatsoever, my vocabulary is small and probably not very practical, and I do not feel very confident about my syntax. I joined the Icelandic Association of Northern California, went to a couple Thorrablot dinners, placed an ad in the newsletter, wrote letters and e-mails to the Association officers, etc., but did not get much of a response, so I am still confined to the books and other materials I have acquired over the years: the textbooks 'Icelandic' by Stefan Einarsson and 'Teach Yourself Icelandic' by P.J.T. Glendening, the Hippocrene concise dictionary and an old ensk-islensk ordabok by Sigurdur Orn Bogason, 'Thaettir' by Halldor Laxness and several books of poetry, Bjork's album Gling-glo and a few movies! I actually translated some poems into Icelandic, which are undoubtedly riddled with errors, and have been translating an Argentinian novel as well, just for fun. In the next couple of years I plan to apply to the B.Ph.Isl. program at Haskoli Islands. In any case, I would like to travel to Iceland some day and learn the language there, but it can hardly hurt to have a headstart. Thakk' ydur fyrir!
Vir dingarfyllst,
Rebecca Whittington

Hi, I am a beginner in the Czech language. I've just married into a Czech family and my husband and I are trying to start a family. I would like to learn Czech to be able to teach and learn with our children as a second language. The areas in which I need help in are grammar and conversation. I'm willing to spend two day/ evenings a week to learn. The qualities I am looking for in a teacher would be patience and understanding . I do not speak any other languages other then English. I've learned quite a few words in Czech from my husband and inlaws but am realizing this language is very difficult. I hope there is someone out there that can help me.
