Hello!
I have never taken chinese lessons before, but have a burning interest in becoming fluent in Mandarin. I have studied russian, french, german, and a bit of italian. I am not fluent in any of these, but could communicate a bit.
I don't have much money right now so I'm happy to take class with larger number of people. I could also work (help with class or something) in exchange for classes.
I plan to possible major in Chinese in college. I know that Chinese is the next most important language for Americans to know/speak in areas of business. Also, my sister is studying acupuncture and oriental medicine. She and I would like to work together in the future. My knowledge of this language would be very helpful to her. I am very dedicated to learning Chinese.

Student at University of Miami looking for language tutor to begin in january/febru ary 2006 in chinese, arabic (any dialect), russian, or spanish. Beginner in all four languages. Have previously taken a year and half of Latin and an concurrently taking ancient Greek. Deep understanding of romatic language grammar. Preferably located near the University of Miami. Dedicate two hours or more once or twice a week. Schedule flexible.

I started trying to learn Chinese about a year and a half ago but each time I find my self stopping for several months at a time. By the time I start again I have to relearn a lot of what I have previously learned. My biggest obstacle is that I started learning in an area where there were no Chinese people around and I have only had the opportunity to actually speak to someone on a couple of occasions. Therefore, I have very little confidence in what I have learned so far.
I feel I have a pretty good handle on pinyin (but I am sure my pronunciation is not that good to a native speaker's ears). My written skill is very weak. The book was learning with was focused on speaking. I can recognize some of the very common characters but the majority of what I can speak I cannot read.
Plea se don’t get me wrong, I am very serious about wanting to learn. I just feel I am at a point where I will not move any further in my learning trying to do it on my own.
