My mother's background is Slovak, and I was born in Austria. I have my German, but when I visit my family in Slovakia, it is frustrating, because even though my family can speak German, they sometimes forget and then they have to translate.
I want to be able to communicate with my family in Slovak not in German. Plus, not everyone in my family can speak German, so it's a little hard to communicate with everyone. I am definitely a beginner.
I commute to Toronto for work and have friends in Mississauga. I would be willing to travel to either/or. I'm thinking that the grammar part of the lesson would excel my conversationa l skills in the long run.
I have tired to learn through my mother with no success due to the fact she wasn't able to explain the WHY part of the lesson.
I have taken German lessons when I was in school even though I can speak German, to increase my skills.
As far as time, I would want to see how it goes, hard to say at this time. But I would definitely want to get the basics down if nothing else.
Qual ities in the lessons, need structure, book to follow, exercises to practice.
As far as the teacher, one that does not just hand things to you and says do it. If I had such a teacher, I might as well go on the internet.
Hope this is enough of a description. I look forward to hearing from someone in the near future.

Hi I am a beginner in Slovak and would like to learn, mainly as my future wife is Slovak. I am getting married in Levoca in the middle of August and would really like to say a few words of thanks to my hosts if possible and supprise my wife to-be!
Also I would like to continue my learning, so I can communicate better with my wifes family.
I would like to dedicate as much time as possible and happy to use 1 hr plus per day.
Qualities I look for in a teacher are patience!!

I am a beginner Slovak student. I had an exchange student from Slovakia live with me for a year, and we ended up being good friends. I went to visit her there and absolutely loved it. I'm going back in a few months and would LOVE to be at least moderately conversationa l. I know extremely basic things and random vocabulary. I'm trying to work through a textbook by myself, but it's just not cutting it.

I am very beginner in Slovak but I have visited the country twice now and would like to learn the language in hopes of moving there. Conversation is what I would like ot learn first and foremost however I would like to be able to communicate effectively. If at all possible I would like to do learn Slovak as an independent study program for school but above and beyond that I can dedicated 2 to 3 hours a week. I would like I teach who is difficult yet understanding and truly undertands the language well enough to teach me.
