~ Proficiency level = beginner
~ Reason for learning = been living in Tokyo for 2 years already but have not picked up the language at all, and feel that it is a waste if I leave here without knowing the language. Plus, it could be a advantage for a job search in the future.

I am beginner with Japanese language. I can read Hiragana but stumble through Katakana as well as some Kanji. I would like to find a teacher who will drill the basics of conversation, reading and writing. I need to learn Japanese for both academic and career goals. I would like to have lessons once or twice a week for 1 to 1.5 hours. In addidtion i hope to have homework that will require 1-3 hours of study a day.
My ideal teacher will be one with training in teaching Japanese to foreigners. As for method of instruction i would like the main language of instruction to be Japanese though at times it may be necessary to use English to explain a point or concept.

1) I want to learn Japanese, and I only know some vocabulary and some very basic sentences now.
2) I want to learn Japanese because I want to live in Japan for a few more years (I've been here almost 2 years now). Also, my girlfriend is Japanese and her family does not speak English.
3 ) I need to learn the spoken version of Japanese. I am not so interested in reading and writing Japanese now (but maybe later).
4) I want to take one lesson each week at my apartment in the Imazato area of Osaka Shi.
5) My Japanese teacher much be able to speak English at a basic conversationa l level.

My proficiency level would probably be above beginner but well below intermediate. I would like lessons because I am married to a Japanese citizen and have two young children. My wife is very fluent in her native language and both of my children are proficient enough that they attend Japanese schools and communicate adequately, in Japanese, with their friends. Therefore, I would like to increase my knowledge and proficiency. Some grammar would be good but I am mostly interested in conversation. I would like 1-3 hours a week instruction, depending on time and cost. I would like lessons and a teacher who will help me to learn enough conversationa l Japanese to get by with my Japanese friends and neighbors. I will be leaving Japan, for America, the 1st part of March 2007.
