I am just beginning to learn Vietnamese. I want to learn Vietnamese because I have a son whose half Vietnamese and I feel that it would be good for him to learn the language and culture of his grandmother. I really need alot of help with pronunciation , basic words, etc. I want to dedicate as much time as possible to become proficient in basic Vietnamese, so that maybe I can move on to more intermediate levels. I am a beginner Portuguese speaker. I would like to take lessons to be able to conversate before I take a trip to Brazil as well as for singing purposes (I love Brazilian music and since I sing, I wanted to connect better to the language). I would like to take at least one lesson per week. I would like to continue learning Kiswahili to help me further my career as a Foreign Area Officer and to just become more proficient in a language I truly enjoy. I believe I am ready for intermediate level learning--ide ally I'd like to become better at daily conversation in addition to reading/discu ssing newspaper articles. I would like to study for 2 weeks in Tanzania this summer (4-20 Jun), and it is possible I will return in the summer of 2006 for 1-2 months of additional training.
