Description |
Good day. I am a business man out of pakistan. Have done my highschool from a british school and my graduation from the united states. Presently have been associated with business for the past 15 years. Have been researching on various business opportunities in laos. Have also been there now about 7 times in the last three years. I am deciding to open up an office sometime next year and thus face a major issue as far as the language is concerned. My next trip is planned in February and I thought that if I could learn a bit of Laotian it would be beneficial for me. Please let me know your thoughts on this.

Description |
I have been working in Laos on and off for about 10 years as a researcher. I lived in Laos one year in 2003-2004 and took some lessons with my Lao colleague (i.e. not a trained teacher). I started to read and write a little bit. My level of conversation is basic: I can talk about everyday life in general. I do also have an understanding of conversation within my professional field, as I have been involved in a lot of interaction and interviewing with local people in my work (together with my Lao colleague who did the translations) . However, I haven't ben back in Laos since 2006 so I have forgotten some of my Lao. Now I'm about to start a new research project in Laos and want to improve my language skills for that. I'll be based in Brisbane and do fieldwork in Laos during 2012 and 2013 (a few shorter stays). My idea is that while in Brisbane, I want to take Lao lessons quite intense, to be able to gain as much as possible during my fieldwork sessions in Laos. I need to improve reading and writing as I believe that's the only way to go to learn the language properly. Conversation will then be easier to just take up, I guess. I want to study intense in the beginning. Three occasions per week would be the best as I have other obligations too at the uni. My dream teacher is structured, and also able to explain and offer the right 'feeling' for the Lao language.

Description |
I have adopted a Laotian family here in Sydney and I like to learn their language. I am a beginner and cannot read Laotian letters. I just like to become able to communicate with my Laotian friends. I would like 1 or 2 hours learning time preferably Tuesday evenings each week. The qualities I am looking for in a teachers is patience. I grew up in Switzerland where I spoke German, French, Italian and Romantsch. I learnt English when I arrived in Australia in 1966 and I am fluent in writing and speaking and I also learnt Spanish in 2000 when I visited South America. I have great difficulties in learning even the basics of Lao for reasons that are not quite clear to me. Perhaps my brain is full but I must say I never struggled with a language so much as Lao.
