I want to learn Hindi out of love for the language. A good number of my friends and family consider Hindi their mothertongue, so I have been exposed to it for a very long time.
My proficiency is very low. So many words are familiar to me because I hear them so often, but even basic sentences I would have a very difficult time forming them. I have a basic grasp on the grammar and when someone is talking I can kind of follow along and get an idea what they are talking about. And of course I know basic things... ap ka nam kya hai?? mera nam (my name) hai. ap kaise hai? you know, things like this. I also can read/write Hindi alphabet and want to get stronger at this so would prefer to have books in Hindi rather than transliterate d to English. Also one thing I very much struggle with is the issue of gender in Hindi grammer. English is so devoid of this for the most part and so it is very difficult for me.
I am willing to spend whatever amount of time it takes to learn Hindi, as it is one of my life dreams. My biggest problem is that I'm very shy and get hesitant to try and talk Hindi because a lot of friends pick fun at me when I try, so I really hope to find a teacher who won't poke fun and will be understanding of me having a funny accent and being a beginner.

I am learning to be able to communicate with my husbands family...and plan my wedding! I took a class 3 years ago but didn't get far and haven't practiced much so I would likely be a beginner. I want conversation, but I always need to know the why something is the way it is so it would probably be good to learn some grammer. I would dedicate at least 3 hours per week.
