I have chosen to advance my skills in languages because I am currently enrolled in International Economics and Development at the University of Ottawa. I have taken a great interest in Latin America, thus wishing to learn spanish. Unfortunately I never took the opportunity in highschool to enroll in spanish classes, therefore I am seeking outside help. I am at the beginner stage with no previous background knowledge. I am hoping to dedicate 1-3 hours a week on learning the language, but anything more than those hours will not be possible due to my current schedule with school. During the summer months, however, I will be more likely to put in a greater amount of hours.
I am looking for an instructor who understands the language AND the culture of Latin America. My goal is to one-day create an irrigation system which links houses in rural areas with a water pipe-line. I need to be able to converse with the natives of the land, but also to understand their situtation from more than a textbook discription. I am also looking for someone who as a general interest in ME as a person and cares about my success; someone who knows my name, rather than just me as a number.

I wish to improve my abilities in the French language for both work and personal reasons. I have taken a few French courses, and I am at an intermediate level in the grammar, reading and writing aspects. However, I would like to improve my speaking ability. I am coming to Beirut in early May and would like to spend 2 weeks taking French language courses which would concentrate on conversation. I would like my teacher to have a sense of humour and to be able to make his students comfortable.
My son, too, will be there at the same time. He is wishing to learn Arabic. He has taken quite a few university courses in Arabic history and culture. He would be at a beginner's level. Can you suggest a program for him?
