I'm a beginner. My wife is Vietnamese, but refuse to teach me the language. When I go to her family parties (a lot of them) sometimes I feel left out because they start speaking Vietnamese. I want to surprise them when I speak some sentences to them. Also, I really felt out of place when I went to VN last year and could not talk to any of her friends. I tried the tapes and books to learn words, but the tones of the language I think is the key to learning the language. I need someone to help me to learn the proper way to pronounce the tones and words. You cannot get that from a book or tapes.

I am a beginner learning Vietnamese. I know a few words and phrases.
I want to learn to pass on some of the language to my daughter, who was adopted from Vietnam. Also for our next travel to Vietnam.
I would like to spend 2-4 hours a week learning. I am a 2-hour drive from Denver but could come down once a week.
I would like to be given an assignment, work on it during the week, and review it when we talk.

I am an absolute beginner in Vietnamese and a native English speaker. I plan to visit family and friends in Vietnam in 2006 and would like to learn the language. I am particularly interested in the southern dialect of Saigon, not the northern. I think 2-3 hours a week would be ideal, either at one time or two classes per week, for one year. I would be attending with a friend, so there would be 2 people in the class.

I am a beginner who will be visiting Vietnam later this year. Many of my friends where I live are also from Vietnam so I'd like to learn to try and talk with them in their native language. I would like to spend as much time as possible immersing myself into the language, depending on my availability and the instructor's availability. I spend alot of time on the computer and have high speed internet access so can setup videoconferen cing if needed.
