I am eager to gain a basic proficiency in mandarin chinese. I have been in Beijing for a week. I have come to China to spend time with my son and look forward to spending several months here at this time, with possibility of further return trips. At this time I have picked up just a few words. My languages are English, French and Italian. I find that often sounds in Mandarin are more closely related to sounds in French, which has helped me. I would like to have one on one lessons, for 2 hours 3 times a week, or, other if better recommended. I have a good ear for sounds and mimic quite easily but need much reinforcement to remember! so I enjoy repetition and formulating sentences that are practical for every day life. Finding words in the dictionary I find sometimes frustrating as I can't guess the sounds needed. I would also like help in learning chinese writing so I can understand simple signs etc. Thank you for your interest and reply.

Hi -
I am an American employed as an English teacher in Beijing until June 2006. I would like to find a Mandarin tutor to meet with me in person. I am a beginner, but I can read pinyin. I know the tones, some simple phrases and vocabulary words, and about 50 characters.

I am currently living in Beijing and have been studying for about 2 years. I have more than 'survival' language, but with large content and grammatical holes. It seems like I learn best with authentic, repeated conversationa l practice rather than straight memorization.
I'm looking for 2 days per week, somewhere in the east-3rd ring road area. I live in Dashanzi, near Lido hotel.
