I want to be able to read texts in academic journals on second language acquisition in Chinese. I have studied Mandarin at the university, taken private lessons and studied on my own. I particularly need help in learning to read and write Chinese characters and I need to learn about Chinese culture - both deep and surface culture. I also need practice in conversation. I would like to spend 3 hours a week with a teacher and then have home assignments to carry out. I need a patient teacher who uses simplified characters.

I am presently looking to learn the ins and outs of Mandarin as a general appreciation for the widespread nature of the language, as well as a healthy respect for it's place of origin. I would love to master the language conversationa lly within two years, if at all possible, and would also be willing to work on assignments at home.
The only caveat to my post here is that I presently have a job that takes up much of my time. I would be willing to get Tuesdays or Thursdays off, but we will have to establish a clear schedule in advance.
