i went to Japan this summer and became very interested in the language and culture of japanese people. i want to study japanese and be able to communicate with japanese individuals. i have made friends over there, but thru email, they do all the translating from and to english. i want to be able to learn their language so we can communicate both ways, as well.
i have never taken Japanese language, so i would be a beginner in every way.
not only do i want to learn the language to communicate, i would like to learn the culture and what is proper and what is not appropriate over there.

My proficiency level is beginner...I only know words, but I don't know enough to talk to people...I want to learn fluent European Portuguese because I am marrying a Portuguese man and I can't talk to his family in Portugal because they don't know English. Also, we go to Portugal once a year, and I can't have conversations with anyone. I need improvement in conversation. I am willing to dedicate as much time as necessary to learn as quickly as possible. The most important quality that I would look for in a teacher is patience. I speak English and I have learned German, so this is very difficult for me because it's obviously completely different from German.
