My main reason for learning Mandarin is so I can converse with our Chinese representiati ve company in Beijing in their native language.
My presnet knowledge of Mandarin is practically nil. I do know how to say Ni Hao.
My most important objective to learn conversationa l Mandarin.
I can probably dedicate up to 10 hours per week on this endevour.
My teacher should be able to provide me with conversationa l Mandarin instruction with Beijing pronunciation , preferably. I would also prefer someone residing in Mississauga - either he/she can come to my office after normal work hours on weekdays or I can go to his/her place.

W hy learning Mandarin - Many reasons: its the language 25% of all human population speaks, so I think it makes perfect sense to learn it and may be become good at it. I am fluent in English, Malayalam (my mother tongue) and Hindi (my national language), so Mandarin is something I love to have to my language armor. :)
Areas need particular improvement - Well, I'm just a beginner, so I guess I have to learn from the ground up.
How much I can spend for learning - Well, it depends on many factors since I do work from Mon-Fri and occassionally travel for my work. But I guess, I can spend at least 3 to 4 hours on either saturday or sunday.
Qu alities looking for in a teacher -
1. Prefer a native mandarin speaker who has a good command over English (thats the way I guess I would learn)
2. Teaching experience in teaching Mandarin to foreigners (by doing this I guess he/she would have developed the necessary patience while dealing with them :))
3. Having a friendly approach

I wish to learn writing and reading Traditional Chinese characters for personal improvement.
My proficiency level is probably at the standard one primary school level.
I am more interested on the writing and reading aspect, rather than speaking. I would also prefer to learn the Traditional and not the Simplified characters.
