I was born and raised in the US. I can read and write a little and would like to learn more. I went to Vietnamese school for about a year or so in the past. I work for a law firm with mainly Vietnames clients. I am Chinese, but born and raised in Houston, Texas. I can understand Vietnames if spoken slowly and very basic words. I can respond a little but am shy to say the wrong thing. I don't want any elders to think that I am disreprecting them in any way so I normally tell them I can only respond in English and would like for that to change that I can communicate with them back in their language.

I am married to a Vietnamese national and wish to improve my Vietnamese skills in all areas but especially speaking and listening. I am self taught up to this point and learned what I know from friends and self study but feel I need more serious teaching to progress faster and develop a better foundation for further progress. I have good available practice with my wife but feel I need more structure to go with all the practice. I don't know what my proficiency rating would be but I can make myself understood and can understand many things my family talks about around the house concerning money, days of the week, food and other topics. I become quickly lost when in conversations at normal speed with strangers. I would like an experienced teacher who can meet my schedule at about 07:30 AM.
