My son is 14 and is at school in the UK. He is studying for the IGCSE exam which he will take in June 2012. Prior to boarding school in the UK he was at school in Australia so he is dealing with changes in the course and the level. On the whole he is managing at the level required but he lacks confidence and would like to improve in order to get a good grade. We can provide textbooks and there is an online website showing the syllabus. The course covers both written and oral work.
He will be in the USA for the UK Easter break from 4th to 24th April. We would like to organise lessons for this period and if they prove helpful we would then like more during future breaks until the exam. I think probably 2 hours twice a week but we are flexible. We live in Bryn Mawr.

Dear Potential Teacher,
I am the father of two adopted daughters. My youngest daughter was born in Viet Tri, Phu Tho province, Vietnam. My wife and I spent 3 weeks in Hoan Kiem, Ha Noi in 2001 when we adopted our her. I learned some basic Vietnamese at that time, but have forgotten it now. We returned to Vietnam in 2008 with both of our daughters so that they could experience some of the beauty and culture of Vietnam. We visted Ha Noi, Ha Long Bay, Viet Hai, Cat Ba Island, Hoi An, Hue and Da Nang. We still stay in touch with the guide 'Dragon', who assisted us on our trip.
We wish to return to Vietnam in a few years and meet up with our daughter's birth family (we met once, briefly, in 2001). I am determined to be able to communicate with them in their native language and to do so in as deep a way as possible when we meet again. I live near the State University of New York at New Paltz, but because of my work schedule and family commitments, think it unrealistic to attend language classes there. I am considering on line classes, but I am thinking that weekly lessons, in person, with self study in between is more realistic. I am open to suggestions.

I have a personal interest in learning Polish and would like my children to learn as well. I am at the beginner level, but spoke Polish as a child. I am not interested in a 'formal education' but rather more in immersion learning - I have made several attempts to learn the traditional classroom way, and it did not stick. Although I can be very flexible and am certainly open to learning by video conferencing, my ideal scenario would be to have an educator come to my house to teach myself and my two daughters (a 4-year-old and 1-year-old - both VERY well behaved and happy) to speak Polish together informally, in the way children learn to speak a language, as I do not have much time to study (an hour per week at most), but spend plenty of time talking to my children! :) Ideally, the educator will be very good with children and be very patient.
