Hello,
I am interested in learning to read and write Thai. I have lived in Thailand my winters for 10 years. I don't think my Thai is very good but I have been told by Thai people it's quite good. I feel like I have not been learning much the last few years and I think it's because I can not read or write Thai. I'm looking for some direction.

I would like to speak to my mother in Thai fluently and be able to interact with my family in Thailand to build a deeper and stronger relationship. I used to go to Thai school between the ages of 12-15 but as I got older, other activities took precedence. Honestly, I would say that I am a beginner, although I do know the alphabet and vowels (salats) and a few other things but I am very rusty. I feel I need I need alot of work in grammar, conversation and writing. I am willing to dedicate a year or more. The qualities that I am looking for in my teacher is someone who will challenge me when they see that I can be pushed further than what they expected. Someone who is patient and has a variety of teaching styles that are effective. I am looking for lessons that are interactive, rigorous and useful. One issue I had with thai school is that they kept all the students at the same level which was frustrating because I wanted to advance because I had a goal in mind...to be closer to my mother.
