I always wanted to learn Tamil. Hi! My name is Russel Dyer. Here are my answers to the above questions:
I want to learn Tamil as my wife is from Tamil Nadu, and much of her family speak mainly Tamil. My wife is pregnant and I would like for the whole family to be able to communicate in both Tamil and English. We are also planning on living and working in Tamil Nadu for a few years in the future.
My proficiency level is beginner - I know just a few simple words, and I can read extremely slowly. I learned the alphabet in 2008, but I am starting to forget many of the letters.
I would love to be conversationa l, and to be able to read simple books.
I would like to spend a couple of months towards the end of 2013 (mid October to mid December) learning enough so that I can continue to learn on my own by practicing with family and reading books. Perhaps 2-3 lessons per week during this time would be good.
I would like my teacher to patiently help me practice, set me some basic tasks to complete, and hold me accountable to the goals I set for myself.
