I am learning Indonesian with the purpose of helping there in an NGO. I am a beginner (but studied a month at UGM). I need improvement mainly in speaking and vocabulary. I want to dedicate one hour daily but don't need to meet the teacher more than twice a week. The quality I am looking for in the teacher is patience and adaptability with my way of learning. (I was an English teacher for 25 years.)

My name is John and im a Korean American. I was born in the states and lived there my whole life. About a month ago, I received a job offer from SAMTAN and made a decision to move to Korea to start a new chapter in my life.
So why do I want to learn Indonesian?
I think its very important for me to learn Indonesian if I want to grow in this company. SAMTAN does alot of overseas business in Indonesia and eventually I would like to be working in international trade/sales. If I want to work in this field, i need to develop basic Indonesian conversationa l skills. The more fluent I get in Indonesian the better opportunity I have with this company. I'm a beginner with no previous studies in Indonesian. I know learning a new language can be difficult, but one positive outlook I have is that i heard Indonesian is very similar to English. So hopefully this will help speed up the learning process!
