Description |
I want to learn Vietnamese for several reasons. I work with many Vietnamese people and would like to be able to communicate properly and effectively with them. I am very interested in dating one of the Vietnamese ladies and she is interested in me as well. I wish to learn her native language and help her learn English. I am a beginner. I would like to begin with basic conversation and build from there. I can dedicate and hour or so per day and more on weekends when I'm off. I am looking for an instructor that can teach proper conversation and writing skills from beginner to advanced.

Hi! I have a daugther 8 years old that speak, write, & read in English, Spanish and know a little (basic) Vietnamise. I would like that she learn more Vietnamise, because to me is very important so she can communicate clearly with her grandma & grandpa that doesn't speak English. Also, she doesn't loose the opportunity to learn the native language of her father. The areas that I wold like that she improve are conversation, read & grammar. I know the more time she practice the language the more she learn. The qualities that I looking in a teacher is the dedication-ti me, patience and organization.

- I would really like for my son to learn Vietmanese for his second language. He is a quarter Vietmanese and I would like for him to learn a part of his heratiage. I heard the younger you are the easier for them to learn the accents of the words. So I wanted to start looking into a tutor or something.
- His level and my level are both beginner.
- He and I need the inprovement of converstion and then maybe grammer. I am just happy if he could speak some and to understand the language.
- Now I am open to the time of the dedication. He is my only child at the time being but i do deal with helping my other family members to. But if directed the way I am will to work at it with him.
- The qualities are for him to learn to speak and understand the language.

Description |
I have been learning the Vietnamese language for two or three years via self-study. I would say I know the basics but am not quite at the intermediate level. I have used Griesser software (good start), Vietnamese 1 of the Foreign Language Institute (twice through), the Colloquial Vietnamese book & tapes (can make it through chapter 8 of 17 before I stumble) and Pimsleur Vietnamese 1 (excellent). I am halfway through the Rosetta Stone Vietnamese 1. I own the 'Chung Ta Noi' book for Intermediate Vietnamese but it is too advanced for me at this time.
With out a doubt, I have learned to speak best using Pimsleur, although I've learned spelling, vocabulary and grammar from the other sources. I hope my tutor can train me further via the Pimsleur method. In this method, it is principally Vietnamese spoken but they use English to prompt the student to speak in Vietnamese. In contrast to 'immersion' courses, I have made the most progress in my Vietnamese by the Pimsleur method.
I do not care much to learn how to write Vietnamese. Right now, it is not important to me. Speaking it and understanding it are my most difficult hurdles.
I have been to Viet Nam eight times, to HCMC but never Hanoi. I certainly want to move there to VN and hopefully work there also. My goal is to be able to hold a conversation with the people of Viet Nam whenever I go there (whether next time or whenever).
I want to dedicate an hour or two per week to the tutoring lessons but want & expect to have meaningful homework during the rest of the week.
I think the only requirement for my tutor is that he or she not be 100% immersion style. If I cannot even ask questions in English, I think I will be lost.
