Teaching Approach

My approach is to encourage talking, with a mix of Bulgarian and English as necessary to achieve basic conversation; then to build on this to add grammar and vocabulary as we go. The approach is intentionally vague to allow students to stipulate areas of interest, particular requirements in terms of grammar, vocabulary, idiomatic usage etc. and the rate at which they aim to progress.

Program Description

I aim to give conversationa l classes to groups or individuals in the comfort of their own home. Any topic of conversation is acceptable. I aim to develop plans with my students according to what they want out of the lessons.

Teaching Experience

I have had five years' experience giving conversationa l classes and two additionally giving full grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing and conversation here in Sofia.
I have also had many years' experience in improving language with slow-learners in England. I therefore have great patience, quite a good sense of humour (if quirky!).

When do I teach?
I will aim to give lessons whenever you want them!

What is my payment policy?
I should prefer to be paid for each lesson I give. I don't insist on prepayment of a block.

Wha t makes me an effective teacher?
I try to aim to cover material that you want to cover.
I explain concepts as soon as I feel that you have not understood them; similarly I repeat words with synonyms until I find one that you understand then go back over and, if necessary, explain why I did not use that word originally.
I also try to tie in grammatical constructions with similar ones in Bulgarian or with the Bulgarian equivalent.
I have had many years experience helping people get themselves understood. This means that at a basic level I don't insist on 'correct' grammar or vocabulary; language is negotiated and it is quite a lot of fun teasing out of each other exactly what you want to say!

Cost of Lessons

20 leva per hour for individuals. 10 leva each per hour for groups.
