The first lesson is for assessing the student’s requirements and needs. I use the Common European Framework and other standards, such as those related to tests, e.g., IELTS tests. For the remainder of the lessons, we work towards goals agreed in the initial session and other learning goals may be added as we continually work and assess the results. We will concentrate on learning in the main areas of speaking, listening, reading and writing, in particular, those most needed by the student. However, there is always have a core element of speaking and listening involved in lessons because that is how language is first learnt. I take account of student’s learning styles to help create lessons that are accessible and memorable for them.

Program Description

We offer English as an Additional Language at Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced levels, Test Preparation, Dyslexia Support and Mathematics sessions. This comes in the form of private tuition. We are experienced at working with children and offer lessons to students from the age of 5 upwards. As part of a campaign to bring life to the local area, we will be holding a cut-price children's holiday English club and private tuition for all ages, starting from August, 2012. Depending upon interest, we are hoping to offer classes, so perhaps you could invite friends. Please contact me for further details.

Teaching Experience

I have been working in education at various settings for about 10 years. This includes as a Primary Class Teacher, Supply Teacher and classroom assistant. I have also helped to run a holiday community project for young people. I have been a qualified teacher in schools since 2006.

I have 5 GCSEs, 3 A Levels, including GCSEs and an A-Level in English. The GCSE involved a speaking test, English Language and English Literature. This will enable me to understand the needs of students taking these qualification s. I have a Degree in Primary Education with Qualified Teacher Status and my specialism is English.

Q What is your teaching schedule?
A My lessons can be arranged on a flexible basis in a format suitable for students. For example, we could meet in person, online via Skype or on the telephone. This can take place any time from Monday to Thursday from 9:00am to 8:00pm; Fridays, 9:00am to 3:00pm and also on Sundays until 6:00pm. If further you need further lessons to be scheduled at short notice, I will try to fit one in where possible.
Q What is your payment policy?
A I prefer to be paid via Paypal or in person and for money that is being transferred via Paypal or the bank to be cleared 24hrs before the lesson. If this is not possible, lessons will be subject to cancellation in order to avoid unnecessary travelling expenses or use of time.
Q What other relevant experience makes you a more effective teacher?
A I have worked with students in very many capacities: primary, secondary, tests, English as an Additional Language. I tailor lessons to student's needs and take account of learning styles and needs in order to produce memorable lessons.
Q What other relevant information and experience makes you a more effective teacher?
A I have recently begun to offer dyslexia support, so I understand when people have difficulties in learning a new concept, but also the confidence that is built as we overcome them. I am currently learning a foreign language myself, therefore I am very able to put myself in the place of other language learners as a consider their needs. I write poetry, articles, songs and short stories. My commitment to English is demonstrated by the fact I also write articles, prose, poetry and songs. My appreciation of the language goes beyond just teaching to understanding the freedom and joy that comes with being a language user at various different levels.
