I believe that the most effective way to improve language skills is through practice. If the goal of a student is to be able to effectively communicate while traveling, having the confidence to speak is essential. I prioritize conversation over in depth writing and reading as the skill is often lost in language classes.

Program Description

I prefer smaller group settings to maximize the attention given to each student. I like to mix up lessons ranging from basic sentence comprehension , verbal practice of greeting and basic conversation, and more in depth grammar and writing skills. The more talking the better!

I am a community-bas ed health teacher in Tanzania. I am seeking to teach others Swahili once back in Seattle since gaining significant experience with the language this past year.

I am currently employed by the U.S. Peace Corps living in a rural village in Tanzania. I am teaching community-bas ed health to those around me in Swahili.

What is your teaching schedule?
If seeking online tutoring, I am available most days per week in the evenings. If seeking in-person tutoring, I am located in the Seattle area and am willing to organize preferred times. I am mainly available in the evenings and weekends and the schedule can be constructed between student and teacher.
Wha t is your payment policy?
I accept cash payment after lessons as well as venmo or paypal. If checks are preferred, this can be arranged for in person lessons. If a student cancels within 24 hours of an in-person lesson, an extra $10 will be added to the lesson fee. For online tutoring, $10 will be charged after 3 cancellations .
What other relevant experience makes you a more effective teacher?
Pri or to moving to my rural village, I was in 10 weeks of intensive Swahili learning classes. After 10 weeks, I gained a very firm grip on the language which only improved over time. I understand the curriculum needed for basic conversation in a short period of time. This coupled with my language proficiency now results in a unqiue and helpful learning experience.
