Unlike a lot of teachers of dead languages, I like to emphasize conversation and active use. Besides being much more fun than just reading texts, all evidence points to conversation being the best way to learn a language. Generally speaking, I like to spend 1/3 of the class in conversation, 1/3 in introducing and practicing grammar, and 1/3 in reading texts. No matter how much we're covering in a day--and expect to do a lot of work!--the mood is always fun. Many students have told me they look forward to my class after a long day at work or their usual school, and I know I always have a great time.
