I will provide flexible and effective teaching method with two aspects:first of all, I will teach the learners to transform their "language mode" from European language to Chinese, this process would be based on reading, writing and speaking; apart from that, I would rather engage the leaners into Chinese culture and environment. I would show her/him interesting Chinese videos with regard to people's life, or bring them to a Chinese restaurant to really let them first feel the atmosphere, then learn language. |

I am a native speaker of Mandarin Chinese and I lived in China for 22 years before I came to the States. I majored in English literature in college and I’m now taking the Liberal Arts program for graduate studies in St. John’s College. My excellence in English and especially knowledge of English and Chinese grammar has helped my students to learn Chinese better by comparing and contrasting with English.
H owever, learning Chinese is not just about learning the language itself. It has everything to do with Chinese culture, history, philosophy, art, music, and even cooking! I apply the liberal-arts approach that benefits me a lot in St. John’s to teaching Chinese as well. It gets my students more interested in China and therefore helps them to learn Chinese even better.
I lived in Canton for 17 years and I can teach Cantonese as well. |

Pratice is the key to success.Altho ugh every language is unique, different languages have something in common. I use comparing method (compare mandarin with the student's native language, for example, English, find the similarities and differences,e tc) to let the students to learn a foriengn language using the knowledge of their first language). T he purpose to learn a language is to use the language.I design my lessons, exercises and homeworks based on real life.I encourage the students to use Mandarin whenever they can and get back to me when they need help. Studen ts want to have fun to learn Mandarin,I try to make my teaching interesting by using games, pictures, etc. |
