Vietnamese Lesson 1: How to say Vietnamese personal pronoun in a Vietnamese family.

FAMILIES ARE THE FIRST!
Therefore, we use personal pronoun in exact way like we name people's roles in families.
We do not say "YOU", we say "MOTHER" or "BROTHER" as personal pronoun.
In a nuclear family: BA (father)- MẸ (mother)- CON (children). These are NOUNS.
When we call our fathers, mothers and children, we call them BA- MẸ- CON. Therefore, BA-MẸ-CON are also the first, the second and the third personal pronoun.
For example:
- A father is talking to his child. He calls himself "BA" (meaning "I") and calls his child "CON" (meaning "YOU").
- A father is talking to his child about his wife. He calls hiself "BA" (meaning "I), calls his child "CON" (meaning "YOU") and refers to his wife as MẸ (meaning "SHE").
BA- MẸ- CON are singular personal pronouns. Each person has only one father and one mother. Therefore, BA- MẸ are always singular.
If we want to refer to PARENTS, we have compound NOUN: "BA MẸ". "BA MẸ" is also a personal pronoun and is a plural personal pronoun.
For example:
- A child is talking to his/her parents. He/She calls himself/herself "CON" (meaning "I) and calls his/her parents "BA MẸ" (meaning "YOU"- plural).
If one has many children. Then, adding "CÁC" to "CON"- becoming "CÁC CON".
For example:
- A mother is talking to her children. She calls herself "MẸ" (meaning "I) and calls her children "CÁC CON" (meaning "YOU"- plural). |
