VERBS ENDING IN "OIR" (third class)

Note: Those verbs take generally "s", "s", "t" or "d"   and "ons", "ez", "ent" when they are conjugated with personal pronouns (subject).

Example:

                           VOIR         to see

                          Indicative present

          je vois                               nous voyons     voions (error)

          tu vois                               vous voyez       voiez (error)

   il / elle voit                         ils / elles  voient

                          ASSEOIR          to seat , to sit

                           Indicative present

          j'assois    asseois (error)             nous_assoyons    assoions (error)

       tu assois          "                             vous_assoyez       assoiez (error)

il / elle assoit          "                       ils / elles_assoient

Note:  Case of "liaison".  To link two words together.

 In most cases, when a word begins with a vowel or a muet "h", it is joined with the last consonant of the preceding word.  Especially with "s" and "x"  or  "t" and "d".

Example: nous_aimons   we love.               Sept_heures       seven o'clock 

In such cases, final "s" or "x" are pronounced as "z".

Example: nous_aimons.           Six_ans         six years

 Final "d" is pronounced as "t".

Example: Un grand_homme         a great man.

Note: "S"=(SE) is a reflexive pronoun.

Reflexive pronouns become "me", "te", "se" and "nous", "vous", "se" when they are conjugeted with personal pronouns (subject).

Example:        Je me ....                                   nous nous ....

                      tu te ....                                     vous vous ....

               il / elle se ....                              ils / elles se ....

"me", "te", "se" are shortened to "m' ", "t' " and "s' " before a vowel or a muet "h".

Example:

                    Je m'assois      I sit down            nous nous_assoyons      we sit down

                    tu t'assois       you sit down        vous vous_assoyez        you sit down

           il / elle s'assoit   he/she sits down   ils / elles s'assoient          they sit down
