Kinds of Nouns-   Singular and Plural
 
Singular noun refers to a single person-place-thing-animal-quality-activity
Plural noun refers to more than one person-place-thing-animal-quality-activity
 
Abstract nouns are exceptional to the above applications
                                                                                                         Examples
 
There are five ways to make nouns plural                                     Singular       Plural
 
1) Usually you can add an -s to the end of the word                       cat                  cats 
                                                                                                         book               books
                                                                                                         car                  cars
2) If the nouns end with the letters -s   -sh   -ch  -x   -z
     add  es  to change the singular noun to the plural noun             class                classes
                                                                                                          dish                 dishes
                                                                                                          church              churches
                                                                                                           fox                   foxes
                                                                                                           buzz                bizzes
3) If the nouns end in a consonant followed by  -y
    drop the -y and add  -ies  
                                                                                                          dictionary        dictionaries  
                                                                                                           country           countries
    If the nouns end in a vowel followed by  -y
    simply add an  -s to the end of the word                                        boy                 boys
                                                                                                            toy                  toys
