Parts of speech -Nouns

Kinds of nouns-Singular and plural                                   Example

                                                                                            Singular      Plural
4) If the nouns end with the letters   -f  or -fe
    drop  -f  or  -fe and add a -v and  an  -es                        wife             wives
                                                                                             knife           knives
                                                                                              leaf            leaves
    Not all the nouns that end with the letters
    -f  or  -fe follow the above rules
    example - safe/bluff/waif
 
 
    There are few nouns end wih the letter  -f  that
    forms their plural by simply adding an  -s                         chief           chiefs
                                                                                              belief         beliefs
                                                                                              roof            roofs
                                                                                              proof          proofs
                                                                                              cuff              cuffs  
5)Nouns ending with the letter  o  don't have a rule
   some end in   -s  and others in  -es                                    tomato       tomatoes
                                                                                               piano         pianos
 
Students are advised to check the  Dictionary to identify the plural
                          form -in case of confusion -when they come accross nouns  indicated under para 4 & 5  above.
Some nouns have the same spellings whether in the form of singular or plural
             Examples-deer-furniture-water-electricity-air-sugar-money-flour-dust-crisis
Some nouns remains as plural always
             Examples- clothes-scissors-trousers- series,
Some nouns become plural when you change the spellings only
              Examples- man- men /woman -women/ child-children/foot-feet/ tooth-teeth/goose-geese/mouse-mice
