The eight catalan vowels

The Catalan alphabet contains more vowels than the Spanish one, for Spanish language has got 5 vowels (a,e,i,o,u), pronounced as they are written, but Catalan language has open and closed vowels from "e" and "o", and also a neuter vowel similar to a soft "a" So, the eight Catalan vowels are:
À (always open) È (opened) É (closed) Í (always closed), Ò (opened) , Ó (closed) and Ú, always closed. Thus, comes the "@", a neuter "a".
Listen to some examples of the Catalan sounds:
À from Casa. the first´s got the stress, so it is opened. All others "a" without stress in their syllabe are closed, "@"
So, here is the vowel Catalan system represented by a threesquared diagram, which represents the grade of openess and closseness of a vowel.
