I am interested in learning Chinese (Mandarin) because I am currently living/teachi ng English in Beijing, China. I've been in China for about 2 years. I take Chinese lessons twice a week in an informal setting. I would put my level at late elementary/ea rly intermediate level. My speaking and listening is much more advanced than my reading or writing. (I can read some characters, but I have never officially been taught how to write characters- I only have a little self-study in that area.)
I would like to improve in grammar (sentence structure), reading, and writing. Along the way, I'm interested in increasing my vocabulary.
I am returning to Miami, Florida for 8 weeks this summer (summer 2010) probably from late June until mid-August. I would like to study Chinese 2-3 times weekly during this break, to improve my Chinese prior to flying back to Beijing. My residence in Miami is about 2 miles down FL-5/US-1 from the University of Miami.
Bec ause I live in Beijing, some of the Chinese (especially speaking) I have learned is not strictly putonghua, but rather Beijinghua. That being said, I am not interested in studying with someone who comes from a province where the dialect is vastly different from Beijing (ie. from a Southern province), as Beijing is where I reside and use Chinese on a daily basis.

I am looking for an positive and cheerful person who will teach my 4 year old son, Damian, Spanish. Our family travels and it is my desire for Damian to learn a foreign language and feel confident with his speaking abilities. While he is only 4 years old and an active boy, he is well disciplined and with the right teacher, he will do anything for you. He currently takes a lightweight Spanish class at school, but I would like to re-enforce her efforts. I would commit to lessons once a week. I also have a 2 3/4 year old daughter who would join Damian after a few months, unless the teacher felt they could teach both children effectively.
