I have had a couple years of French, but I have never learned any Swahili. I would like to eventually go to Africa to teach or volunteer. From what I understand, French and Swahili are two common spoken languages. It will help with my application to know these languages, especially French. I would like to become as fluent as possible in written and spoken French. I would like to dedicate as much time as I can, on nights and weekends, as needed. I am looking for a patient teacher. Learning languages has never been easy for me and I am easily embarrassed. I am a hard worker and I am dedicated to learning.

I am looking for a way to become proficient in sign language. I am at a beginning level now, as I only know the alphabet. I have always had a high interest in signing and the deaf community, and would like to be able to contribute. I feel that learning sign language is a natural way to start.

Level: I have completed intensive first year (Level 1, semesters 1 and 2) Japanese at Georgetown University and am currently going to spend the last half of the summer studying the language in Tokyo via a study abroad program.
P urpose: Personal interest; wanted to try to learn an (East) Asian language; fulfilled a linguistics major requirement.
Areas for improvement: I am looking for a language partner/teach er to possibly teach new material, but primarily someone to practice conversation with so that I keep me on par and don't forget much while I've been home for the summer.
Ti me: Anywhere between 2 and 4 hours a week, most likely in the middle somewhere.
