| Description |
Hello, I am half Chinese and my family speaks Cantonese. My father decided not to teach us his native language and now I feel I am missing part of my heritage.
I am also a student at Belmont University studying for a Bachelor of Business Administratio n. I hope to continue my education with a Master of Business Administratio n focused on International Business. I believe having a solid background in another language could help with my education.
I want to emphasize that I am only looking to learn Cantonese. I might one day try my hand at Mandarin, but since my family mainly speaks Cantonese I would like to learn this dialect first. I can only count to ten (which I learned by watching my father count on his fingers) and a few other words, so I am definitely a beginner.
I cannot find a tutor or any classes in the Nashville area that will teach Cantonese. If you are fluent and willing to teach for at least the summer, then I would love to hear from you. Like I said, I'm a college student so summers are the only time that I really have free.

| Description |
Buna Ziua,
My name is Thomas Sybilrud,
I am currently a citizen of the US, but am thinking of moving back to Iasi. I lived there for 10 months last year (2007) with my girlfriend. She grew up in Iasi and then came to the US for high school as an exchange student and continued to go to University here in the states, where we met.
Upon living in Iasi, I did not take formal courses for the language, thus not learning as much as I could have. I figure I could understand about 40 - 50% when I was living there, yet I can probably only speack 10 - 20%. I have a decent vocabulary (which makes it easier for me to understand than speak) but I have trouble putting the words together. We left Romania at the end of November 2007.
My girlfriend and I have been renovating an apartment building in the Gara district of Iasi and will be continuing our real estate development. I am trying to decide if it is a good idea for me to go back to Iasi. I am very serious about learning the language.
Currently I would like to be able to speak and understand the language (I understand people in Bucharest a lot better than the people of the Moldovian region) I have been told it is a hard dialect to learn.
Reading and writting is not a huge issue right now, but eventually it would be nice to learn. But for now I would just like to learn how to speak and understand. I have taken some classes for Spanish (about 10 years ago) so I get a little bit of how the grammer should be since they are similar languages. But I still have trouble.
I f I am going to come back to Romania it will be around mid-July 2008.
Thank you very much for your time. Thomas Sybilrud
