I am not sure how to classify my proficiency level. I have been using the Japanese for Busy People Series (Volumes I, II, III). I am in the first half of Book III...so I know a fair amount of grammar, probably know about 1500 words, and I am using the Heisig method to study Kanji. So I would guess maybe upper level Beginner.
I am learning Japanese b/c in a year or so I will be going to Japan to do an elective clerkship there, and eventually I would like to maybe try and find a job as a professor.
I am mostly in need of conversation practice. I can effectively teach myself most grammar structures, though occasionally I require assistance.
I some time every day devoted to studying Japanese, usually around between 1 and 2 hours. I am quite busy with other school work but I can always find time.
