I am hoping to learn Bengali. I am a complete beginner. I have tried o self teach with a book but found the organization of the book to be a problem. I would like to learn for fun and interest. I would like to be able to speak at a conversationa l level and read literature if possible. I read some bengali in translation and I would like to eventually be able to read the original. I am more interested in feeling a grasp of the language as opposed to learning speedily. Understanding grammar is often more important to me than simple memorization of phrases. I can only dedicate one or two nights a week to formal lessons. I am looking for a teacher with patience and a little flexability as I am a working geologist and travel for work from time to time. I would need to be able to reshedule or cancel lessons a week in advance due to travel. I don't mind online lessons, but I would prefer a teacher in the San Francisco Bay Area so that I would be able to do live lessons from time to time.

I am a beginner in Portuguese. (I have taken some Spanish classes which is similar to Portuguese). I am interested in learning Brazilian Portuguese because my husband is Brazilian-Ame rican. When we have children, I would like them to be bi-lingual in Portuguese and English. I will speak English and Andrew will speak Portuguese. I would like to understand what he's saying. Also, I would like to be able to speak to Andrew's grandmother in Brazilian Portuguese. I need improvement in all seven langugage areas of Brazilian Portuguese... speaking, listening, vocabulary, pronunciation , grammar, reading, and writing. I would like a minimum of two hours a week of lessons. I am an English as a Foreign Language teacher, and although I like I structured lesson, I think I may learn more quickly if my lessons are more communicative ...focused especially on speaking and listening.
