I just finished my MA in East Asian art and I am getting into the field of contemporary Chinese art dealership.I will be travelling to China periodically and my goal is to be able to communicate with people in general and with artists in particular.
I have some very basic Chinese knowledge, I did a 3 months course at SOAS, London, during my studies.
O ral communication is my main goal (with emphasis on prononciation ), as well as being able to read basic Chinese. Eventually I'd like to be able to write it, as I find Chinese calligraphy and the art of writting it very beautiful, but it is not my main goal for the moment.
I spend most of the time in Miami Beach, although I travel a lot. I will be leaving end May to Europe, then going to China and coming back beginning of July.
I would like to see my teacher personally when I am in Miami, 2 or 3 times a week, (I can go to the teacher's location if it's up to 20 minutes away) and that he/she gives me 1 hour homework a day. When I am abroad I'd like to have classes by phone or have my questions answered by email, and again have the homework that I'll do on my own.
I have a good ear for languages and it is also my hobbie. I am from Spain but I speak English, French and German.
I want someome who is able to explain me logically how Chinese grammar works, but focusing on everyday situations, and that is going to correct my prononciation . Someone intelligent who challenges me.

My name is Jonathan, and I am an undergraduate student at Liberty University. I have very little knowledge of the language, but I am very interested and excited about pursuing studies in order to speak and write efficiently. The reason I am interested in learning arabic is to open up the opportunities for a career after schooling. I am interested in partaking in either Middle Eastern studies or foreign policy for graduate school, and having a residency within the D.C. metro area I understand the level of inportance for acquiring such a dialect. I am looking for someone who is willing to work with me two to three times a week for over the summer, and either through computer based communication or throughout breaks and weekends during the fall and spring semesters while I am away at school. It is but only a 3 hour drive from my University, so even meeting on weekends every so often would be fine. I am very dedicated and committed to pursuing this, and the price per session is not a problem. In the lessons, I am not looking for anything paticularly yet because of my lack of knowledge concerning the subject. I would feel very confident if I could achieve the basic grammer, reading and writing for over the summer (if not more) and then work with conversation and translation. I am more than willing to pick up any outside materials that would be beneficial to the course, and on my honor I will do my best to work with the teacher on all aspects. I want to learn Farsi as a language requirement for a PhD program in English Literature -- it requires two languages, one is Urdu (my native tongue) and the second, Farsi, which I need to learn well enough to read any text with some level of proficiency. It is better if the potential teacher has an academic background.

I am certainly considered to be at the beginner level. I have moderate fluency in Spanish and I am currently working on increasing my ability in that languge. I desire to learn Urdu for career advancement. I currently have one semester left of undergraduate studies, but I am looking for ways to begin my study in Urdu. After completing my undergraduate studies or even during short breaks between sememsters, I have aspirations to study abroad to complete my fluency in both Spanish and Urdu.
