My father is Icelandic and unfortunately due to his rigorous working schedule he didn’t teach me Icelandic growing up. Now that I’m an adult and have completed my studies, I finally have the time to learn another language. Am struggling to gain any headway just using internet resources/boo ks. Would love to find (preferably a native-speake r) a teacher/tutor in Sydney. I know a few words from my visits to Iceland but am otherwise a total beginner and am finding Icelandic difficult and confusing! Plan to travel back to Iceland and hopefully stay a little while if I can get a grasp of the language.

I am currently a postgraduate student in International Communication and International Relations.
I am very interested in learning Modern Icelandic (Beginners). Though I have no prior experience in this language, I have always been interested in Norse and Scandinavian culture, mythologies and traditions.
I will not be able to start classes immediately, but around perhaps the second week of July, 2014 - aka my mid-year break. I will be far too busy to start learning this language before then, unfortunately .
I would ideally like a tutor for whom Icelandic is either their native tongue or they have a lot of previous experience teaching the language.
Either way they would have far more experience and greater fluency than I currently do!

I wish to learn Icelandic as I am very fond of the popular culture, the landscape and the cold. I would possibly like to live and work, or study, there for my third year of university. The phonology and beauty of the Icelandic language is quite phenomenal, and it is something that I am very contempt with learning.
I am extremely low proficiency and am considering re-starting after my Semester 2 exams, but perhaps with a teacher.
