I've studied in London and am pretty well-traveled
My name is Gloria and I am 25 years old. I am interested in travel and languages. I love talking about my travels and study abroad time. Recently I have been to Taiwan, Japan, Brazil, Argentina, and Chile. Since I'm not traveling right now, I'd like to do something related to that. I studied German for 5 years but have not used it in a very long time so I am basically a beginner again but I think I can pick it up fairly quickly. I would like to write with a German speaker because I hope to go to Germany next year and would like to practice.
However, any languages are most welcome to write me! I love to learn about new cultures. I speak/read/write English and also speak conversational Mandarin (I can not read or write). I am not a gold member. Please contact me!

Hi,I am italian girl,I am interested in chinese language and culture. I speak little english and spanish, now i start study chinese. I'm looking for study chinese in Suzhou. Can you give me information about where can I ask for a course or private lessons for a small time (2-3 weeks in autumn)?

I'm looking for a good language immersion program in Mexico
I would like to study spanish for a few weeks in Mexico. Anybody know a good and affordable school with immersion program ( living in a family too?
Any tips are appreciated. I am also open to going to another country as well.

Buscando Escuela/classes de Ingles en Canadá
A friend of mine from South America is planning on coming to Canada in a few months to study English and is looking for a good inexpensive school. Either Vancouver or Montreal or ??? I have the same problem reading novels in other languages as well as in reading novels in my own language. For me, I find the best thing is to find a reasonable compromise in between looking up none of the words, which, as you say, results in not developing your vocabulary, or looking up every word, which is a waste of time, and usually also results in your not developing your vocabulary.
What I do is read with a pencil in my hand. Every time I see a word I don't know, I underline it and write the word at the top of the page, so it will be easier to find later.
Every so often, I take a break from reading and I do vocabulary work instead. I practice my vocabulary skills, trying to guess what the word means from context, from how the word is formed, from what I know about language and about how words are developed in English. I also focus on the words that look the most important--those that show up frequently in the book I'm reading or words which I have a reason to beleive will be useful words for me to learn. I try to have an idea how many words I can work on at a time--for me, that's 3 - 5 words that I hang onto and practice, and when I feel comfortable having learned a couple of those, I'll pick a couple new ones as I continue reading to add to my study list.
This way, I'm not trying to memorize every new word, I get through my novels at a reasonable pace, and I continue nonetheless to develop my vocabulary, making deliberate choices about which words I want to hang on to, and which I can let go, and perhaps learn at another time when I see them again.
