Ramadan and Eid - gift ideas/traditions
Hello,
I was wondering if someone could assist me with some of the traditions of Ramadan and Eid. I am an American female (non-Muslim)dating a man originally from Yemen, he has lived in the US for over 25 years and is an American citizen. In general is he not very religious but he does follow the fasting for Ramadan. What is an appropriate gift I can give him for the end of Ramadan or Eid?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Gypsy

Re:How is
Hi Andrea,
'I'm sorry' would be 'Ana asif(m)/asifa(f)' and 'excuse me' would be 'An isnak(m)/isnik(f)' (i.e. if you want to be excused for leaving to the bathroom) or 'Law samat(m)/samati(f)' (if you'd like to ask a favor or order something in a shop). I hope this could help you.
Greetings Janine

Starting Russian
Dobryj den' ! Hello from far cold Russia! What sort of help do you need? Can you read russian text on your computer? I suppose Russian is a very difficult language, firstly because of numerous sounds shiftings in different word forms. But maybe that is just amazing you so much?... The grammar is approximately as complicated as in Arabic, I believe. I really did write poetry when I was a bit younger, I should try to spell these if you liked. Have you known any russian humour? We like very much our short humour stories called "anekdoty". One for example: Cow is climbing up a tree. Crow shouts: "You the fool, what are you doing?" "Well, I just wanted to try some apples." "Fool! This is a birch-tree!" "Sorry, but I have fetched the apples." I mean, the russian text is even more fun. Do svidanija !
