Best learning software for Russian? Meilleurs logiciels d'apprentissage du russe?
Does anyone have a recommendation about very good learning software for intermediate/advanced level in Russian (for French native speaker)? I`m considering Rosetta Stone as one option. My emphasis is currently on oral skills.

Envisage Rosetta Stone (parmi d'autres options).

Thanks for the help...
Se Hee Kim,

I have Windows 98 SE, not Windows XP, so it only has a "Regional" setting, but not one for language (as far as I can tell). It wouldn't really let me toggle back and forth between two settings, but I'll look into it more when I have more time.

Thanks again for your help! :D

Re:Cyrillic characters, etc.
I don't think I can help you with the Cyrillic characters part, but hopefully I can help you with the second part.

On my computer (using Windows XP I think it is) I have done this, so if you are using it also, then it should work.

Click on start and go to control panel. (If it isn't present there, it's possible that you will be able to get there from "My Computer") Once you've gotten there, you will want to find "Regional and Language Options" (It has a picture of a globe.)

A window will pop up. There should be two tabs--one will say "Regional Options" and the other will say "Languages". Click on "Languages". Next, select the button that says "Details". It should then open another window which will show two boxes--"Default Input Language" and "Installed services". Next to "Installed services" there will be a button which says "Add" and a button that says "Remove". Click on "Add" and select the language(s) you want. It should add it to the list then. Afterwards, you can click on it and click the button "properties" if there is something you would like to adjust.

Finally, as long as that all works for you, there will be a bar (which can be placed on the taskbar or anywhere on your screen) that you can use to select which language you wish to use. (You can pick out of any of the ones you have added on your list.) Please note that you will want to have selected an area inside of a box, or else it will not change to that language. Also (at least for Korean and Japanese) you are able to toggle between English and the other language, so that makes things slightly easier I suppose...

If you have any questions, I can try to help. Also, you can look online for help with this. That may be more useful to you than this.

I hope it helped! (Sorry if it was a lot ^^; haha)

Cyrillic characters, etc.
Hello,

Does anyone here know how to get Cyrillic characters to appear correctly on this website? I'd like to be able to write in Russian, but when I copy and paste it into here from Microsoft word, it all comes out looking like Greek (no pun intended). Also, does anyone know of a program (preferably free) with which one might be able to type non-English characters (French, German, Hebrew, Russian, Chinese, etc.) on an English-alphabet keyboard? Clicking icons with a mouse can be a little time-consuming compared with just plain typing.

Any info in response to the above queries would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Michele
