Hi! Everyone
I have confusion using the english word "awful" which generally means "bad".

Like "That's awful"
BUT in a book, i have seen a sentence written as
"That's awful lot of money".
I just can't get it. What doest it mean?
I would appreciate if anyone could help me with this awful word.

Re:English word 'Awful'
in cases like this it can be confusing. awful does generally mean bad, but if it has lot with it: awful lot it means a huge amount of the item so an awful lot of money would mean a huge amount of money. so if it has lot after awful it means a really big amount. if it says aomething is aweful it means bad or horrible.

Sometimes, the word "awful" is used to describe something that is in a big quantity; it's used to exaggerate something.
IE:
1) I have an awfully good time. [meaning, I have a very good time]

2) That's an awful lot of money! [meaning, that is really a lot of money]
