Andrei Tarkovsky Андрей Тарковски
I have seen all the main Andrei Tarkovsky movies. My favorites are Solaris and Nostalghia. I also have his book Sculpting in Time and I agree that time is the medium of film making. I have been to Russian and to Tallinn Estonia where Tarkovsky's movie Stalker was filmed. I like how he incorporates his father's poetry in the movie. I especially like the long takes and American poet Jorie Graham's poetry has been inspired by it.

Hi Andrew,
Maybe Tarcovsky's "Stalker" - which I love a lot- will be interesting for you as well. And I highly recommend you "Heart of a Dog" (Russian: "ÁÞÑÐçìÕ áÕàÔæÕ")with a superior actor Evstegneev.

I have seen Stalker, actually I own it, but only in VHS format which I got for a mere $2 because there was a rental store that was closing. You know I've been to Talinn, Estonia in which the film was shot and it is very beautiful but the movie doesn't at all focus on that, though yes Stalker is very interesting.
I'll try to check out Heart of Dog but I might have a difficult time finding it, and I'm not a member of net flix.

Hi Andrew,
It's definitely inexpensive ($2) for such film :-).
Yes, I agree that the film does not reflect the nature of the country where it was shot but we know that it focuses on other moments.
As for The Dog's Heart or, as it is sometimes translated, the Heart of a Dog, unfortunately it is indeed not very famous in many countries, but it is a real masterpiece.
