American interested in films with English subtitles
I love "foreign" films (Ones not in English in ANOTHER language with English subtitles). I do not like gory films or flims with lots of sex, violence, and foul language. if you know of any, I liked the movie "Life is Beautiful," and I would love to see more.

A good film is "city of lost children". It is in french with english subtitles. A very powerful film.

Since you are studying Spanish, I would like to recommend
Los Amantes del Circulo Polar (Lovers of the Arctic Circle).
I found it at Blockbuster, and have seen it 3 times!
Another favorite is Run Lola Run (German).
My all-time favorite is Heaven ( from the same director as Lola, Tom Tykwer, but done in Italian).

Hei Tara, here are a few that are at Blockbuster on the "New Release" wall:
The Cuckoo- 1944, end of WWII, a Finnish/German sniper left to die, a Russian soldier sentenced to die and a Lapp widow come together. Very funny, the characters cannot understand each other on bit.
Under the Sun- 39yr old Swedish farmer advertises for a woman to keep house. Good also.
The Man Without a Past- Finnish, a man has lost his memory and has a series of events, funny at times, sad also, and a few times makes you say "Aaww!"
None of these have lewd scenes, the first two have love scenes, Cuckoo is the best for that, two characters embrace, noises are heard and that is it.
If only one, look for Cuckoo.

There is this really good Iranian movie. It is called "Color of Paradise" by director Majid Majidi. We all cried buckets when we saw it. It is truly a beautiful film.
Also, the Iranians have depicted the life of the Virgin Mary in another very moving film.
