Re:Phantom of the Opera
I agree completely. It's a haunting, eerie story, and my favorite version so far was the Andrew Lloyd Weber musical. I could listen to that sound track for months on end.

Bravi! Bravi! Bravissimo!

I haven't seen the movie yet. I really hope they do it justice. Let me know what you think, selva!

Re:Re:Re:Phantom of the Opera
Yes, it is sad and haunting and beautiful. It was a while ago I read the novel, and I remember enjoying reading it very much. But I don't remember what was in the beginning at all. I imagine it may have been rather dull. That would sure explain why I don't remember.

Yes, I remember looking at the trailer for the movie and being delighted to see that the music was based on ALW's score. He is brilliant and I loved the entire musical from beginning to end, which is really something to say. Most musicals, there are at least one or two songs that you just want to skip when you come to them. Not in Phantom of the Opera. It totally rocks.

Don't feel too bad about missing lines here and there. Maybe English being a second language for you has something to do with it, but don't count on it. We native speakers always have parts we can't figure out. We often make things up that sound right and aren't. I put a post about these misheard song lyrics, called "Mondegreens" over in the Slang/Expressions board. I hope people find it fun to read.

Anyway, if you are inclined to do some web searching, you'll have no trouble finding the lyrics to the songs. I find that it works better to look for a unique line from the song, rather than searching for the song title. That way, you're more likely to find more actual copies of the lyrics and fewer sites that simply talk about the song without telling you what the words are. So instead of searching for "Prima Donna", for example, I search for, "Prima Donna first lady of the stage," to make sure it pulls up actual lyrics.

Let me know if I can still be helpful to you in understanding the music once you know what the words actaully are. That's something I like to think I could actually do a better job of than the Internet. :-)

Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Phantom of the Opera
You're very funny Selva. If you keep giggling like that, people are going to want you to share your "medication" with them. What's going on? Have you been having a lot of dental work? :-D

You really don't need to know the titles of the songs at all. Any little snippet of the words that happens to stick with you will be much more useful. Try searching for this string: Where in the world have you been hiding? Really you were perfect. It'll probably work better if you don't put it all in quotes. This will bring up the song called "Angel of Music." If you tried searching for "Angel of Music," you'd probably get so many sites about Greek mythology or new age spiritualism that you'll have a terrible time pulling out anything that has anything to do with Andrew Lloyd Weber's musical.

Of course, once you've found the words to one song, you'll probably find a bunch of them all together, if not all of them. So you'll get all of the titles of all of the songs anyway, fairly quickly.

If you just don't have any snippets of the songs swimming in your head, don't worry; I've got plenty. Try some of these:

The Phantom of the opera is there in side your mind
Prima donna first lady of the stage
Think of me once in a while please promise me you'll try
What I love best asleep in my bed and the angel of music sings songs in my head
Turn your face away from the garish light of day and listen to the music of the night
Say you'll love me every waking moment turn my head with talk of summertime
Masquerade every face a different shade
In sleep he sang to me in dreams he came

If these don't find you the whole batch, I'm a Prussian sailor.

Anyway, I hope you have a great week at school, and I look forward to helping you out with the lyrics next weekend. But watch that giggling—I hear it can be contagious…

Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Phantom of the Opera
Very cool, Selva!

I'm delighted that you have the lyrics and are enjoying them so much. And when you share them with me, I remember how much I enjoy them.

Please, don't let me interfere with your having fun giggling. My comments were meant to be playful and teasing in a friendly way, and not to make you think there was something wrong.

Actually, it's very funny, that you say that, about being too weird. Today, I found out that a friend of mine uses her mouse backwards on her computer. She rotates it around so that the buttons are facing towards her and she holds it that way when she uses it. Now, you have to admit, that's really unusual. And she takes a lot of heat about it. People tease her a lot, and they think that she's really weird. Well, her mouse technique really is, of course, but so what? Who does it hurt? Who anywhere on the planet is going to have to do anything different because she learned how to use her mouse backwards and never learned how to use it the way the rest of us do. Big deal.

You're probably thinking I'm pretty weird now and wondering if I have a point. I promise, I do.

The harassment my friend gets about the way she uses her mouse reminds me a whole lot of a great many things people get really uptight about other people doing differently. I just wish people would get over themselves.' The world is supposed to be full of diversity, and people are so often acting like we all have to do the same, dress the same, act the same. If that were true, why would we have so many different plants and flowers and different types of animals. Diversity is a good thing. It's normal and healthy, and it's a fundamental part of how the universe grows and transforms.

So my point is, if you're having fun giggling, I think that's great! Have a ball! They always say that if you smile the whole world smiles with you. I can't imagine why laughing shouldn't be the same. I mean, I HAVE been laughing with you, so it works pretty well.

Prussia was a Germanic East European country from the seventeenth century until 1947. I was trying to raise the irony factor by choosing a sailor from a country that doesn't exist anymore, like if I'd said, this will work or I'm a wooly mammoth.

awesome!im glad i made you laugh lol,i hope that i can laugh all the time but it's just a dream...i cant lol,but i'll try my best though.....

the lyrics are super fine ,just that i have to listen to the song first and then find out which lyrics go with that song...lol...it's a mess at first...i cant match some lyrics well ...*_*im still matching them heehee

and yeah, the way your friend use the mouse is really hard to LEARN! how can she control it well,or she's too smart! LOL...i mean it,it's really difficult to use it that way huh!

i agree that diversity is pretty cool,i mean we dont need to do it like other people and we still would have fun!even more!

after i finish the lyrics(it's still a little mess lol),i'll may need your help with some diffcult sentences...
and yes,i'd like to sing it if i can!

i got your point about that Prussia soilder, and a wooly mammoth lol...FUN!

hope you 'll have a great day!
i'll write some later!!!!
