Hello Steve,

I guess Polina's idea is great, because you can get nearly all American movies in German with English subtitles, f. ex. at eBay Germany. I only think that the speech of Finding Nemo is a little bit too fast and inarticulate. I really can recommend The Lord of the Rings because of it's understandable speech, and the synchronized voices are great. But I know that the American don't really like synchronized movies or subtitles, so here you have a few of nice and popular German movies:

-Der bewegte Mann (R: Sönke Wortmann) (funny)

-Fitzcarraldo (R: Werner Herzog, it's with one of the most impressive German actors, Klaus Kinski) (Adventure/Drama)

-Der Himmel über Berlin (R: Wim Wenders) (Drama/Fantasy/Romance)

-Männer (R: Doris Dörrie) (funny)

And here a film that got an Academy Award in 2003:
-Nirgendwo in Afrika (R: Caroline Link) (Drama)

If you want to know more, just take a look at IMDB.
I hope you'll enjoy watching,

bye, Gudi

Downfall. It's German with English subtitles. It has won several awards. It's about the last two or three weeks of Hitler's life in his bunker.

Hello, a GREAT German film with English subtitles is "Im Juli". Also, I recommend watching first with eng. subtitles, then again with German to see how much you pick up. In fact, if you find children's German shows are cartoons with German subtitles, that will also help you a lot. Good luck! Annie
