I worked 4 years (1998-2002) as a translator/interpreter in a military unit. Throughout these years I did various translation works covering many fields: literature, technical, medical, psychology, patents, operator manuals etc. I work mainly for agencies in USA and Romania. Most of my translation work is for Schreiber Translations (mostly patents) and Yu-Jian-Yo Language Services (documents and user's manuals for wood processing company). If I am to give precise figures, my rates would stay between 5 and 9 US cents/sw, with an extra 50% for editing (if required). For proofreading my rates are 50% of my translation rates for documents above 1000 words. For documents under 1000 words I charge a fixed amount of 20 USD for unpretentious texts and a fixed amount of 30 USD for texts that contains heavy terminology. All the rates charged for each job vary depending on the volume of work,subject matter, technical content, legibility of text, delivery format and the timescale of the work. My daily capacity is approximately 2000 words. I work with MS Office XP, QuarkXpress 5, Adobe Photoshop 6, Adobe PageMaker 7, Adobe Framemaker+SGML 6.0, CorelDraw 9. My only CAT tool is Wordfast 4.2. I have an AMD Duron at 900 MHz with 256 RAM, a 40 Gb HDD, a CD-ROM, a 56K voice/fax external modem and an inkjet printer. Miscellaneous In 1996 I took the TOEFL test with a score of 637, as well as Test of Written English with a score of 5 (scale from 1 to 6). In May 2000 I gave the test for receiving the title of certified english-romanian translator (literature). The grade I took was 8.5 (scale from 1 to 10). My hobbies include soccer, swimming and volleyball. As for my passions I must mention music (I play classic guitar) and literature. |
