I start my lesson with day-to-day conversations in the Swahili language.
I then introduce a student to the nouns used in the language, nouns that are commonly used in that foreign language, e.g family, food, days of the week, institutions, plants, parts of the body.
After learning the nouns, I introduce verbs that can be used with the nouns.
There after I introduce phrases following the classificatio n of nouns in the Swahili language.
Th en I introduce the writing of short essays. |

I use a variety of teaching approaches depending on the learner's level of understanding of the Swahili language. All in all, I use the practical method which allows the learner to actively take part in the learning process. Especially for the beginner, I teach conversationa l language through modified patterns and set phrases, and only begin to introduce complex grammar in the later stages of the beginner sequence. Each lesson include a short oral quiz at the end to improve speaking ability. In audio lessons, the focus is almost entirely on speaking and listening skills. |
