The number one thing that I found most comprehensive in the way the class was run was the fact that at no time were the students suppose to speak Greek. Every question or comment had to be said in English, even if it was said incorrectly, the attempt was what counted. If the question was posed incorrectly it was my job to help them find their mistake and correct it. Furthermore we were also taught to video tape the students performing skits or various other activities in English, they were then asked to watch the presentation as a class and find their mistakes. I found that even though most students were shy on camera, watching themselves made them improve their skills. I also give positive reinforcement to all of my students and in as many ways as possible I try to understand the difficulties they are facing with the language and try to overcome the problem with them. |

Teaching approach: |
The approach I have to teaching is similar to one I use myself in learning languages. Student centered lessons with lots of teacher guidance and motivation. Students' autonomy is a goal to work toward in language learning, and their participation in the learning process at every level is important. If students can have a chance to interact with the lesson (or teacher) by in part deciding on what the lesson will entail, they will naturally have more motivation in learning. This also makes the whole process more enjoyable for the student and teacher.
Giving the student the necessary tools to deliver and decipher a message is a first step, at any level. Once this is done, presenting them with an opportunity to use this knowledge is crucial to developing fluency, whether it be a student mastering a basic greeting, or debating about religious theories, the process must be adapted and used. |
