I focus more on teaching students how to use the language and less on grammar because Chinese grammar is not complicated. Therefore, I focus on listening and speaking, along with reading because listening and speaking in Chinese is not possible without knowing the characters.
In addition to learning the language, if the students want to learn about Chinese history and culture, I will also do some lectures, such as idioms and poems, and even Classical Chinese, as long as the students want to learn about it.
I would like to know about the student before I start teaching, how much they want to learn and how they want to learn. I don't push the student to learn and I don't put pressure on the student because I want to keep the student's interest in Chinese. |

Learning a language can be very difficult and frustrating and there probably isn't a best way to learn a language. But I believe being familiar and comfortable with the language will help one improve. And to be familiar and feel comfortable with the language require a lot of seeing, hearing and using the language. I suggest providing as good a environment where you can always see, hear or use the language as you can. To do so, you can watch related videos or listen to podcast, change the language on your devices, carry a small book and so on. But of course the best way would be to live in China or have a friend who speaks Chinese.
I and my lessons will try to provide such an environment which is also suitable to you, and together we will explore more interesting things in our culture to hopefully enhance your interest in further learning and understanding of the language. |
